In
1996 the Weymouth Board of Selectmen signed a new 10 year contract
with AT&T Broadband to provide the community with cable television
service. As part of this contract, a non-profit organization,
the Weymouth Educational Telecommunications Corporation, Inc.
(WETC) was established to provide Weymouth cable subscribers with
a locally based educational cable channel.
Today, a five-member board of directors appointed
by the Board of Selectmen serve on a volunteer basis to oversee
the direction of the WETC-11.
WETC is charged by its board of directors to
highlight important events and information of interest to the
townspeople.
Since 1997 the staff at WETC has worked with
town administrators and personnel to educate the public on a variety
of topics such as fire safety, water conservation, civil defense
warnings, and other public safety issues.
